Composite Front Doors
First off, let’s take a little look at composite doors. Composite doors are made from a mixture of different materials and they usually feature a steel frame with a timber core and insulated foam layer, which is glued together and encased in Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP). They’re manufactured under very high-pressure conditions, meaning the final result is that of an incredibly rigid, strong, secure and durable door.
The man-made material is specifically designed to suit a door so you can understand why it’s a top choice for many people. This structure and design speaks volumes in terms of performance too because it’s very weather resistant and low maintenance which are both convenient features.
UPVC Front Doors
uPVC stands for un-plasticized polyvinyl chloride and they’re made by encasing an insulated steel frame in, to create a sealed unit which is strong and thermally-efficient. You get performance with this type of door, it simply does a great job, is also low maintenance and really durable. uPVC doors are extremely reasonably priced which is just one of the reasons why they’re so popular.
Key Differences
Now you know more about what each type of door is and the way they’re, we can look at some differences which may sway your opinion one way or the other.
Quality – Composite doors are, generally speaking, more expensive than uPVC doors. This is because the materials that a composite door is made out of, are more expensive, hence the hike in overall consumer price. You could argue that they’re made from better quality materials and the process of putting them together is more thought out and complex which are all contributing factors to the cost.
Curb Appeal – uPVC doors also have a slightly different look and finish to a composite door. Depending on your taste, you may prefer one over the other, or not be fussed. A uPVC door has a ‘plasticky’ finish to it which some people are put off by, but they’re perfectly nice to look at in our opinion.
Security – Security isn’t an issue with either of these types of doors. Both a composite door and uPVC door have lots of sophisticated locking systems to choose from as well as rigid structure that feels secure. Again, you could argue that the composite is slightly more secure because of the materials it’s made out of but overall, they’re both perfectly safe and difficult to break into without brutal force.
In summary, we would recommend both a composite and uPVC door to anyone, given their circumstances suit. They both have lots of positives which we hope we’ve highlighted for you and there are some slight differences too. We would suggest the best thing to do is to get in touch with our team.
